| The restoration of the picture is great, but the 5.1 surround is merely 5.1 times the mono signal - not acceptable. I have an older DVD which appears to have been transferred from a laserdisc - resolution lower, colours muddier, but at least the surround track is intact. A pity Fortune Star could not get its hands on the original soundtracks.
Consumers have to be careful about rereleased and 'restored' movies - especially those from Hong Kong. Many that boast 5.1 surround are not. Will the producers at least use the word 'virtual surround' or 'matrixed surround' on their labels? We need some transparency here! |
