When I first saw this movie , I watched it on a bootleg videotaped copy that I bought from my local Chinatown for $5 dollars. The subtitles were below the bottom of my TV's screen; so unless the characters said a whole lot, I would not be able to see anything of the dialog.

At the time I was on a Chow Yun Fat binge, and had gotten about 4 -5 tapes. Unfortunately for me, most of the movies in that batch featured minor appearances; and since Chow was in most of this movie I just figured I'd like it better when(I got a better copy of the movie and could understand it. Oh don't get me wrong, I did get the basic plot: son of a big shot moves back home to HK and is forced into the family business, etc... (HK version of THE GODFATHER?) But hey, Chow's in it, so it has to be good.

The next time I came across this movie I went to a "legitimate" Chinese Video store that sold me a Tai Seng 100% legal copy on VHS (this was before DVD) for $45.00. I admit I felt it was too much, but--damn!--I wanted to understand what they were saying in the movie. Hmm, to my disappointment, the same thing happened: the subtitles were below the screen of my TV. But not 100%. At some points I could see the tops of words. Man did I feel ripped off.

Well I admit I haven't bough the DVD version, but at the very least let's hope you can at least read the subtitles, even if you have mixed feelings about the movie.
