I have purchased three different versions of "Fist Of Legend" on DVD. When it comes out on Blu-ray, I'll buy it again. Yes, I'm a sucker, but I love it that much.

Jet Li's greatest achievement in film.

A truly remarkable remake of my fave Bruce Lee flick, one I thought could never be topped. Jet Li shows us exactly how. Yasuaki Kurata has an incredible supporting role as a mentor of sorts.

This is a very fine film, capturing Jet Li and fight choreographer Yuen Wo Ping at or near their personal bests. As great as the original "Fist of Fury"/"Chinese Connection" was, this is much better written and placed in the real world, i.e., SOME Japanese are subhuman creatures, rather than ALL. Yasuaki Kurata gives a well-modulated role as an honorable Japanese of considerable martial arts ability.

I have long waited for a USA-compatible DVD release of this movie that preserved the original dialogue and editing, and had to make do with a mere VCD version.

Finally seeing a crisp re-mastered presentation was well worth the wait. In terms of story, action, and a moral lesson in courage, this film has it all; and I liked Jet Li's version of the story far better than Bruce Lee's "Fist of Fury".

Jet Li's Chen Zhen is lot less impulsive than the character played by Bruce Lee, and unlike "Fist of Fury" where all the Japanese are villains, there are honorable Japanese characters in "Fist of Legend", such as Chen's girlfriend Mitsuko, the elderly grandmaster of the Black Dragon Clan (played by Yasuki Kurata), and even the Japanese Ambassador.

The bad guys in Li's movie are clearly identified as the ambitious militarists who seek total dominion over China. While these imperialistic officers have the advantage of a powerful, modern army over the Chinese masses, as a matter of pride, they also seek to defeat the Chinese "Fist of Legend," to overcome in hand to hand combat the reputation of China's ancient martial arts tradition by hook or crook.

Thus Chen Zhen must fight for honor and country in a gruelling, exciting showdown with a frighteningly tall and tough Japanese general named Fujita.

This film is my personal favorite of all the movies Jet Li has done, and probably the best of an outstanding selection of great martial arts features starring Jet Li Lian-Jie. This is a great remake of the Bruce Lee classic " Fists Of Fury " and is also a classic on its own as the best remake of a Bruce Lee film. Not only is the martial arts action and choreograrhy astounding, but the acting is great also. Nakayama Shinobu is cute and sweet as Jet Li's love interest, Chin Siu-Ho turns in a great performance as Jet Li's foster brother and rival for leadership of their school. Let's not forget one of the best fights and acting performances by the legendary Yasuaki Kurata as an aging Japanese master that teaches Jet Li a thing or two about fighting.

This is a solid movie all the way around and the Dragon Dynasty 2-Disc Set provides us with both the English language version and the original language version which I happen to like more. Again what makes this film great besides the awsome fighting, is the quality performances by Jet and his supporting cast! This movie is a must have for any martial arts fan!

Not much question in this reviewer's mind: this is THE BEST Jet Li movie post-"Once Upon A Time in China" I and II. Amazing action, fast and furious. This is an excellent remake/reworking of Bruce Lee's "Chinese Connection". Yasuaki Kurata also gives an outstanding performance as the Japanese patriarch who has to challenge Jet to allow the latter to save face. Some of Yuen Wo-Ping's best fight choreography of his amazing career.

Good movie, but nowhere in the same league as the Venoms, Lau Kar Leung films, "Drunken Master 2" or even Jet's "Shaolin Temple" films or OUATIC 1,2,3 and "Tai Chi Master". Too much wire fu with lackluster mid 90's camerawork similar to other middle of the road fighters. Choreography doesn't flow together.

The film is fun, fun and fun. A lot of people are reviewing this movie, I wanted to ride the bandwagon. I hear a lot of people debating this classic. Why?

The movie entertains, and Jet Li does a wonderful job. He has the skills in fighting and acting. The choreography in the movie is amazing! I don't know where all this hate comes from people. "Fist of Legend" is a classic in any fanboy's list of awesome fu movies.

There are a lot of people that say "this film is an all right picture, but it's not that good."

In my opinion this is a classic martial arts movie! "Fist of Legend" is directed by Gordon Chan, and I think this is the best movie he has made so far. I also believe this is one of the best remakes of a movie. Bruce Lee is a legend in my eyes, and to see Jet Li remaking a classic film just puts a smile on my face. It's great to see the stars you love and find out who they were inspired by. Bruce Lee has touched many people's lives and he has opened doors for any would be followers in martial arts. "Fist Of Legend" will remain on my top 5 of the greatest martial arts films ever made.

Everyone and their mommas got to review this flick so pretty much everything that can be said about this flick has been said already. I guess I shouldn't even bother. Wait a minute, screw that, I want a piece too.

A lot of folks seem to think that this is one of the greatest kung fu movies of all time. Those folks know what they are talking about. This ball of thunder laced lightning hits rougher and heavier than a Kimbo Slice uppercut. We all know the deal and we all know who's in it. The real eternal question is: which match-up is sicker? Jet vs. Yasuaki Kurata, or Jet vs. Billy Chow? There's a stumper for you. They both rock so hard that if you bring up this question among your friends who are into fu flicks it will usually spark a pretty wild debate. I personally lean slightly toward the Jet/Yasuaki showdown. Something about wind and blindfolds--it just gets me going, dude.

"Fist Of Legend" is possibly the closest thing to perfect fight choreography around (perfect is relative, but honestly it might be perfect) and incorporates many martial art styles, such as Longfist, Ditang Chuan, Tong Bei, Chin Na, Aikido, Karate, boxing, Judo, Jujitsu, and quite a few more that I am probably forgetting. I know some cats say that the general was using Muay Thai. They have either poor eyesight or just improper schooling. Billy's just busting out with hardcore Karate.

This movie is the dope shit and every last one of you know it. If you haven't seen it, you better head for the hills, son, because we will hunt you down and staple you to something so we can force you to see this awesome piece of kung fu cinema history. You'll probably thank us afterwords and maybe even offer us a beer. And we'll accept. 'Cause we like beer. Keep kicking for the stars, folks. I'll be around.

Well what can be said about this great kung fu classic that hasn't already been said? I shall just say I think this is Jet Li's greatest achievement. The fight choreography in this movie is fast and furious and is up there with the very best kung fu flicks. I was glad to see that Yuen Wo Ping kept the wire work to a minimum and kept the fights more grounded, as I think anything else would have spoiled the film. Some people try comparing this to Bruce Lee's "Fist Of Fury". Yes, the story's more or less the same, but I wouldn't say one is better than the other. I love them both. I reckon most people have seen this classic by now, but if you haven't, you really need to. I can't wait to get my hands on the two-disc ultimate edition in September.

I've seen this movie on the big screen, watched it about 50 times, and I understand all the craziness surrounding it, but I just don't see it as a 5 star flick.

This was an odd entry at the time, since Jet Li was turning out one crazy wire fu movie after another. Then, in 1994, this thing comes along. The fight choreography is good, but most of it doesn't have enough flair and intricate choreography, since it's a remake of a Bruce Lee film.

The power and skill of Jet Li is evident and it is one of his better flicks, but I enjoyed Jet's work in "Shaolin Temple 3" and "Once Upon a Time in China 2" better.

I can't give it a better rating since it comes down to the choreography, which becomes lackluster, especially during the final fight scene. I'm sure I'll get a lot of people disagreeing with this, but forget the hype and give it an honest look.

Everyone wanted this to be the greatest Jet Li film. I feel unsatisfied after viewing it in the same way that I'm unsatisfied with "Fearless". There's something about the camera angles and the staging of fights that I can't get over.

NMy friend not only is the choreography outstanding in this film, but the acting from Jet Li and his supporting cast help make this the best remake of a Bruce lee movie ever made!!!Sgt. T
NThe movie has to be higher than a 3 star rating. It was enjoyable and it does offer great choreography. "Fearless" was great too, a good Jet Li fu outing.Rambo part 5 please
NYeah there is a lot of debate over this film because of it's wire fu. For me I really enjoyed this film, the pacing was fast & intriguing. The choreography was done really well. But everyone has their differences on fu films, especially with this pic.JV47842
NThis film is worth more than 3 stars. The film is one of the best remakes of a movie I have ever seen. it's worth more than 3 stars.KungfuManiac
NSorry, but nope. The choreography here is top-notch, and the fact that it's a remake of a Bruce Lee film has to relevance to the quality of the choreography.Choco
NThe fight choreography doesn't have enough flair and intricate choreography?!? 360's,540's,butterfly twists, Longfist, Tong Bei, Karate, Boxing. Dude, you need to enroll in a martial arts class of some kind very soon. Extraordinary misconceptions.Bastard Ronin

FIST OF LEGEND is not a mere remake of the Bruce Lee film FIST OF FURY (called THE CHINESE CONNECTION in the U.S.) I don't there was one Bruce Lee movie I didn't like EXCEPT for FIST OF FURY. It was simply a long, boring, poorly made kung fu flick that disgraced Bruc Lee and everything he stood for.

And in truth, FIST OF LEGEND doesn't have much to do with FIST OF FURY, other than than the basic plot (a martial artist avenging his master's murder) and the Chinese vs Japanese element, so no, I don't consider this a remake of FIST OF FURY, but even if you do, I promise you FIST OF LEGEND is by far the better film.

The movie begins in 1937, during the Japanese occupation of Shanghai. Chen Zhen (Jet Li) is attending college in Japan when he learns that his master, or as Chinese call them, Sifu, was killed in a match with the Sensei of Shanghai's Japanese school. Though Chen Zhen does not hate the Japanese (his girlfriend Mitsuko, played by the lovely Nakayama Shinobu, is Japanese), he returns to Shanghai, and challenges the Sensei who beat his Sifu to a match. Chen Zhen easily wins, and therefore deduces that since he won, his Sifu should have as well. Chen Zhen has an autopsy performed which reveals that shortly before the match, his Sifu was poisoned.

The poisoning is the work of the evil Japanese Genral Fujita, who wants to lead Japan into conquering China. Fujita had the Sifu poisoned because he was the leader of a Chinese resistance movement against the Japanese occupation of Shanghai. Now Chen Zhen is out for one thing: revenge.

Yes, vengence is a typical, almost traditional element of kung fu movies, but FIST OF LEGEND also focuses on the romance between Chen Zhen and Mitsuko, such as the disapproval of Chen Zhen's fellow Chinese towards him romancing a Japanese. When she arrives in Shanghai, she is immediately cast out as being an evil, almost less than human, person simply for her nationality. But Chean Zhen comes to her defense. The message appears to be racial tolerance must always prevail, even in times where one race mistreats another.

But martial arts action is still what audiences are looking for here, and those not wanting wire-fu will be pleased. Two drawn-out confrontations stand out in this film. One is a match between Chen Zhen and Funokoshi Fumio, Mitsuko's uncle. The other is the final battle between Chen Zhen and Fujita, in which you can almost literally feel it as both men punch and kick the hell out of each other.

So the next time your in the mood for a real action-packed kung fu film, FIST OF LEGEND should come to mind.
