Not a great storyline. Basically everyone wants to get the Light Purple Sword. That's about it! You have a band of five bad guys called the Five Tigers. One of them is Ku Feng, playing a one-eyed whip expert. Wang Hsieh is their leader. Wu Ma plays a crazy sick hunchback. Plenty of action and bloodshed. The first major fight scene was shot too closely so we miss part of the action. The last 20-25 minutes are pure Shaw swordsplay action. James Tien shows up out of nowhere at the end as a Taoist Priest and kills Wang Hsieh. Why??? It should have been by Shu Pei Pei or Chang Yi... But the quality of the action is slightly above average, so who cares about the storyline! Try to spot Sammo Hung in a small secondary role. Entertaining enough to watch once, or twice to spot Sammo! Not a bad movie but nothing with a "wow" factor. |
