Writer Steve Barancik's original title was "Buffalo Girls", but the studio decided to change it to avoid confusion with another film being made under that moniker at the time. Despite Barancik's suggestions of as many as 200 alternate titles, the studio ended up going with their own creation, "The Last Seduction", much to his chagrin. Barancik explained later that the title, "The Last Seduction", was made even more ridiculous when the oxymoronic sequel was released: "The Last Seduction 2".

Linda Fiorentino was nominated for an Academy Award for her performance in this film, but the nomination was later taken back since the film had been shown on cable TV before being released in theaters, making it ineligible for the nomination.
