The legendary Sammo Hung is renowned for insisting on full contact in his movies (this being one he produced) so prepare to see his supermodel wife Joyce Godenzi in full-pelt action under the direction of Corey Yuen (action director on Bulletproof Monk and Transporter 2).

Godenzi stars as dedicated cop Mina whose idea of a honeymoon is a dangerous mission to protect a princess at a fashion show. When an attempt is made on the princess, Mina leads a full-blown kick ass assault on the kidnappers but resentment builds when she gets all the credit over her teammates who are now also her in-laws! The kidnappers aren`t put off and go for full out war against her and new husband Huang (Tony Leung) resulting in a tragedy that unites a family in grief into a lethal force of vengeance.

Seething with close combat She Shoots Straight is a wild and furious showcase of female hellcats showing they can kick and punch harder and better than the boys!

Joyce Godenzi stars as Mina, a tough cop who's hot on the trail of a gang of Vietnamese terrorists led by Yuen Wah. Complicating matters a bit are her sisters-in-law, who also happen to work for her. They never liked the "half-breed" marrying into the family, and as such, refuse to fully co-operate with her until a tragedy pulls the family together.

The plot here is really nothing special and the script is a bit flat. However, most of the actors here give performances that give their characters some credibility. There are some scenes in this movie that -- while still fairly melodramatic -- are actually touching. Don't get me wrong, even though this is a female-dominated movie and I just used the word "touching," this is no soap-opera cop drama. At its' heart, She Shoots Straight is an action movie and it delivers in spades. From a chase where Godenzi goes after the villains by leaping on top of various moving cars to a shootout seen thorough infrared lenses, there's inventive action and plenty of it throughout the film. The movie's real showstopper is the finale, where Godenzi takes on a female bodybuilder in a scene that's both brutal and beautiful at the same time.

In the Eighties there was a number of Girl and Gun flicks produced in Hong Kong, such as the Angel series of films and other like Yes Madam.

In this later entry in the genre, Joyce Godenzi, in her first starring role plays Mina, a senior policewoman in the Hong Kong police force. She falls in love and marries policeman Tsung Pao.

Tsung Pao's sisters, who are all in the police force, are against the marriage, partly because she seems to get all the limelight but also because she is not full blooded Chinese.

After a tip off that a Vietnamese gang are to pull off a huge jewel robbery, they stake out the club where it is to take place. One of the sisters makes a grave error and after a huge shootout the gangsters get away.

To get there revenge the gang kill Tsung Pao in front of his wife and sister. Overcome with emotion and anger the family must unite and bring the criminals to justice, and get revenge while trying to stay within the law.

After discovering Joyce Godenzi and using her to striking effect in Eastern Condors, Sammo Hung tried to groom her for movie stardom. While not trained in Martial Arts at all she adapts herself very well and has a great screen charisma. Her fights in this film are often brutal, especially at the end with a female gangster. Her acting is very good especially in the scene where she has to hide her husbands death from his mother, and also in the scene where one of the sisters calls her a "halfbreed".

Soon after Sammo and Joyce married and she seemed to drop out of the movie scene, although she can be spotted briefly in Mr Nice Guy.

With some great action set pieces coutesy of Corey Yuen, this film is reccomended and definately one of the better Guns and Girl flix.

Wow! Sammo Hung and Corey Yuen deliver one sucker-punch after another in this intense and shockingly brutal film. The plot is incidental and little more than a showcase for Joyce Mina Godenzi. She's a high ranking police officer who marries into a wealthy family of policemen/women. The trouble is, all of the daughters can't stand her and constantly berate her, while the chief of police is trying to get her in bed. Her new husband (Tony Leung) isn't much better, and all he cares about is siring an offspring to further the family line. But he doesn't last long. Enter a group of Vietnamese criminals led by Yuen Wah whose plans are foiled by Ms. Godenzi, and ever-escalating revenge dominates the rest of the film. Just when you think things can't get any worse, they do, with jaw-dropping results. The kung fu, stunts, and gunplay are vicious and brutal, culminating in a hand to hand showdown between Joyce and body-building Agnes Aurelio at the end (she looks pretty good, too). Holy shit, those women take a pounding! Carina Lau is magnificent as Joyce's greatest rival sister-in-law, and delivers an amazing performance with killer kung fu. Not for the faint of heart - these chicks mean business.
