I have to give it to Terou Ishii, he took the first "Executioner", which was a very enjoyable exploitation romp, and turned it on its ear, making it into a comedy. Understand this before going any further, this is a comedy with kung-fu elements, not a kung-fu movie with some comedy. It's a caper movie that only Terou Ishii would make.
I have heard that he didn't want to make this film and decided that if he had to make it he'd go completely bananas with it, and frankly I am glad he did. The naked chicks are there, the karate is there, Sonny Chiba is there, but also there is really good humor throughout. It almost like he made this into a satire of all the other karate action movies made in Japan. |
