Another good surprise from Chang Cheh, this kung fu thriller offers lots of fights, a good plot, an interesting questioning of the hero's brave attitude (his sense of justice only brings him trouble), characters more complex than they usually are (in movies from this period of Chang Cheh's filmography), mixed elements from the Shaolin genre (with the techniques, the training, the old master), and the thriller genre (the villain and his assistant, the young couple with the boy selling his girlfriend as a prostitute...). Unusual and classic at the same time!

Great movie starring Alexander Fu Sheng as the only person willing to stand up to the thugs in his village. Wang Lung Wei is an awesome villain with help from Leung Kar Yan (Beardy). My only complaint was the director's choice to stop the action in the end fight between Wei and Fu Sheng to flashback to show Fu Sheng training. Highly recommended.

YAlexander Fu Shing is one of my favorite martial arts stars, he really excels in this film as the only guy not intimidated by a bunch of thugs. Wang Lung Wei as usual is a great villain, as you stated this is a great film!Sgt. T

This movie was pretty good. The action sequences were nice. It stars Fu Sheng as a student who was kicked out of his kung fu school because he went against a local gang who terrorized the town. He was sent away to improve his kung fu skills and return once he has improved. Good movie. There were a few scenes that lacked great action, but okay overall.

Fu Sheng is excellent as the public-spirited carriage driver who takes on an evil gang. Wang Lung-Wei is a formidable opponent (whom in real life I believe could have defeated Fu Sheng in very little time). I could have done with slightly more training footage, but what there is is pretty good.

Excellent performance by Alex Fu Sheng. Sometimes he even reminded me of Bruce Lee in "Chinese Connection" in certain fight scenes. I am not Alex Fu Sheng's biggest fan (although he did star in a few great movies, but played in more mediocre ones), but this is one of my favourites from him. Very rare role of a good guy by Shan Mao. Wang Lung Wei is great as usual as the villain. Leung Kar Yan plays Wei's top man but is not at his best here. Classic old school revenge storyline. The fights are well choreographed and the fighters are not flying! Good acting. A must see in my book.

I have to say that it has taken me some time to warm up to Fu Sheng. This is an impulsive-hothead-refusing-to-be-bullied movie, and it costs him and his family. After some training, he comes back for revenge. I watched this movie two years ago and can remember few things about it. I do remember that last fight scene and how incredible I thought it was, along a growing respect for Fu Sheng. Worth the buy!

Solid entry from Fu Sheng and company. This movie is a shining example that it doesn't matter what year a fu flick is produced (1976). If handled correctly (I'm talking about the fight action), it still comes off wicked and intense, it doesn't have to be intricate and flashy as long as it has the intensity--especially the finale between Fu Sheng and the baddest of bad, Wang Lung Wei. Not only are the fight scenes good, but the actual plot and acting is top notch in my opinion. Highly recommended.

Shaw Brothers star Alexander Fu Sheng in an outstanding performance as he stands alone in a town afraid of the local gang. Shaw Brothers all-time villain Johnny Wang Lung Wei is the tough-as-nails leader of the gang, while Leung Kar Yan stars as his right-hand man. To Fu Sheng's dismay, the townspeople cowed by the gangsters always blame him for making trouble for them as he helps people. Learning new skills from a Shaolin monk, Fu Sheng defeats the gang, but at a terrible price.

Fu Sheng is the only guy that will fight back against the town bullies. This causes him to be disliked by the townspeople because they think he is only bringing more trouble. He is sent away by his master to get more training. In his absence his friend is passed around to the bullies by her supposed boyfriend and his master has been killed. Great end fight between Fu Sheng and Wang Wei. One of few films that show the training sequence and how the moves are used against the bad guy.

I'm not the biggest Fu Sheng fan. Some of his movies are terrible, some good. This has to be one of my favorites from him. The story is pretty straightforward, which is perfect for this movie. Fu Sheng is in top form. I really enjoyed it and will watch more of his films as he is slowly winning me over.

A good Fu Sheng flick with good overall fights and a somewhat good plot--a very good flick to watch.
