In my opinion, it's a masterpiece. The plot is so intense. I feel the distress of the actor with the missing gun. I've recommended this movie to all.

A nice little gem. "The Missing Gun" caught my eye with its fantastic visuals and great acting. I was surpised when I found this flick, I was expecting slam bang action about a cop looking for his gun. This is not that movie. The moment you put this movie in, you're intrigued to find out what happened to the gun and meet some oddball characters along the way. I enjoyed this film a lot.

I felt, from the moment "our hero" had awakened from his drunken night of carousing, that this movie would make an excellent film for the viewer who has never seen a film from modern China, for this film makes the perfect film for the uninitiated! This is basically a seemingly "slow" paced film, about an ordinary guy who has a young kid who hates him and a wife who really doesn't "love" him any more, but the guy is no ordinary Public Security Officer--he's about the best there is in this area! And he's lost his gun? My oh my! He frantically searches everywhere--wife and kid are convinced he's gone mad! He, on the other hand, suspects kid first, then turns a jaundiced eye of suspicion to wife! That said, he confesses to her. Now he must retrace all his tracks. A missing gun in China means that all the bullets contained therein, represent a potential homicide waiting to happen. He will be held responsible. He goes to the home of a tricky kind of "business man" who makes deals in secluded caves; the guys cutie-pie girlfriend, who is sweet on "our hero" winds up dead, and now the heat is on to find that damned missing gun, because big time Communist Party Elite are tired of pussy-footing around; they want action, that gun back, or this Public Security Officials head on a platter. Which will it be? Watch this flick! I give it five stars because of all the subtle nuances in the dialogue, especially that between our hero and his wife, for there is within their whispers and words an intimacy which is the fingerprint of China itself. A most beautifully done film, with some extraordinary scenes and scenery!
