| Overview: | The Aussie comedy sensation from the best-seller by John O'Grady writing as "Nino Culotta"!
"They're A Weird Mob" is about Sydney, Australia in 1965, a sprawling, growing city of three million people. And what people! Easy going, down-to-earth and hilariously funny. In truth, a very weird mob.
Into the city comes innocent, Italian immigrant Nino Culotta. The adventures of Nino fitting in with this "Weird mob", learning their ways and outlandish language makes for a particularly funny Oz comedy. All the more funny it was made by esteemed English producer-director Michael Powell ("The Red Shoes", "A Matter of Life and Death").
Following it's premiere at Sydney's State Theatre on august 16,1966, "They're A Weird Mob" became a record breaking success around the nation. The cast, although headed by Italy's Walter Chiari as "Nino", reads like a who's who of Australian show-biz legends including Chips Rafferty, Ed Devereaux, Slim deGrey, John Meillion, Tony Bonner, Barrry Creyton, Noel Brophy and Graham Kennedy.
