A bang-for-your-buck DVD set

"The 7 Grandmasters": an excellent martial arts movie with very good fight scenes along with good weapon fight display. Extras include: Trailers featuring "Zatoichi", "Samurai Fiction", "Red Shadow", "Sure Death", "Kunoichi", "New Big Boss"; A 2-page paper featuring the movie liner notes; Original movie trailer.

"The Red Wolf": An action movie similar to "Under Siege" and "Die Hard", directed by Yuen Wo Ping, featuring Kenny Ho, Christie Chung, and Elaine Lui. Brilliant fight choreography and hard kicking fights along with brutal gun play. This is a 2-disc version of the movie. The front DVD art design is exactly the same as the HKL version. Extras include: Audio Commentary with Bey Logan and Christy Chung (this is the audio commentary for the Hong Kong Legends version of this movie); Trailers featuring "Blood Heat", "Deadly Outlaw Rekka", "Kunoichi: Deadly Mirage", and "Kamikaze Taxi"; Gallery (featuring several stills from Elaine Lui, a few Bobby Samuel stills, and then movie scene shots); and more...

The special features does not come close to the HKL version (which is platinum status).

"The New Big Boss": This movie only comes in English Dubbed which is quite horrible and takes away from the movie. The fight scenes were overall poorly choreographed and too fast paced with bad camera angles and dark scenes. An obvious low budget movie, however Donnie Yen still shines in a few fight scenes. I would actually give this movie another chance by seeking the Cantonese version. I would also recommend seeing "Ballistic Kiss". Extras include Trailers, featuring original theatrical trailer, "Reborn From Hell II", "Bio-Zombie", "Zeiram 2", and "Riki-Oh".

A very nice collection here. I would say "7 Grandmasters" is the standout, and even a step above "Mystery of Chess Boxing" (aka "Ninja Checkmate") which features a similar cast and the same director (Joseph Kuo). "Red Wolf" is a decent action movie that has fighting and gun play. And then there's the "New Big Boss". It's ok just a little too "stylish" for me. A lot of focus (camera) was spent on upper body fighting. The speed with which the action is presented was somewhat disorienting. By comparison I would much rather see Donnie Yen in "Iron Monkey" or "Once Upon a Time in China 2". I just like them better and can't say I would buy "New Big Boss" on its own.

Three movies for [the price of one] is a bargain. While the films aren't exactly the greatest, they were enjoyable.

Three movies that are sold separately. I'll take them one at time here.

7 Grandmasters: A classic! The fights are fantastic! It dives right into the action almost at the very beginning and really holds your interest.

Red Wolf: Think "Die Hard" meets "Under Siege" but with better action.

New Big Boss (aka Legend of the Wolf): This is the kind of movie, along with Iron Monkey and Ballistic Kiss, I'd give somebody to watch if they had never watched a Donnie Yen film and wanted to give him a try. Donnie has the moves and the facial expressions to match.

This three-pack of martial arts action should be in the library of every movie lover. "Red Wolf" in particular brings a special blend to Martial Arts: the story is great with action from start to finish. I recommend this three-pack highly.
