| ABOUT THE DIRECTOR:
Born in Saga City, Japan in 1959, Akira Ogata dropped out of Fukuoka University to embark on a filmmaking career in Tokyo after meeting director Sogo Ishii. Following an apprenticeship under Ishii, he made his directorial debut in 1980 with a short, Tokyo Hakusai Kankeisha. In 1986 he became a freelance director of television commercials and music videos, and in the 1990s he focused on documentaries. He made his auspicious debut in features in 2000 with BOYS' CHOIR, which won the Albert Bauer Prize for best new director at the Berlin Film Festival and was shown at the Montreal World Film Festival. Since 2002 he has taught film at the Japan Academy of Moving Images and Kanto Gakuin University. |
