 | | | | It's not Jet Li at his very best, but this is an entertaining adventure which calls on him to display more acting chops than his previous films. He's not yet 100% ready for the acting demands, but doesn't embarrass himself. | | LOG IN TO COMMENT ON THIS REVIEW! |

| My Father Is A Hero has all the trimmings of a wonderful old-school Jet Li action movie. Co-starring young kung fu impresario, Tze Miu, and the late actress Anita Mui, in a pivotal action role aside from her usual comedic roles in films, the movie is, essentially, a justifiably brilliant culmination of pure raw kung fu athleticism and filmmaking integrity, which also features the talents of Hong Kong veterans Yu Rong Guang, Collin Chou and Ken Lo Wai-Kwong in a high velocity final fight sequence involving great choreography and direction from Corey Yuen Kwai and Yuen Tak!
Yeah, a nice story with nice dramatic performances from the principle cast, etc. But let's face it-If you absolutely love great Hong Kong action movies, then this a film that should not be forgotten!
OTHER RECOMMENDATIONS: "Legacy Of Rage", "A Better Tomorrow", "The Killer", "Hard Boiled", "High Risk", "Iron Monkey", "The New Legend Of Shaolin", ""So Close", "Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever", "The Bodyguard From Beijing", "Double Team", "The Red-Wolf", "Cradle 2 The Grave", "D.O.A.: Dead Or Alive", "Universal Soldier: The Return", Jeff Lew's latest and upcoming full-length bullet-ballet CGI animated action feature, "Killer Bean Forever", and the upcoming J&J project, "The Forbidden Kingdom", starring Jackie Chan, Jet Li, Michael Angarano, Collin Chou and Jacky Wu, and directed by Rob Minkoff. |

| Good action, good plot, good acting, good martial arts fight scenes. good is the word to describe this film. Not everything is excellent, but any martial art action movie fan or jet li fan certainly won't be dissapointed. you would be satisfied atleast, but not so impressed like we all were with fist of legend. the action choreographer is corey yuen (romeo must die). apparently theres a scene where jet kicks a couple of guys idea in romeo must die that was done again in my father is a hero at the final fight scene. jet fights against three kickers at the end, this is exciting, dramatic but not so intense. the movements of martial art moves can be seen clearly, so thats fine. also there is some use of wirefu incorporated to enhance the innovativeness and imagination of the fight choreographer. the setting is modern day so thats good for a change, after all the old wong fei hung settings. the sound effects are good as you would not be dissapoited. the video quality and sound is also good. So just get it now to enjoy for yourself. |

 | | | | | The story is standard-issue-1940's-Hollywood-my-dad-may-do-bad-things- but-he-really-has-a-heart-of-gold (a la THE CHAMP and a slew of other movies that I can't think of at the moment), but it really works with Jet Li at his stoic best and Tze Miu at _his_ stoic best. The final fight sequence with the three villains against Jet Li is a lot of fun. The only thing I didn't like about MFIAH was the editing; some of the action sequences--particularly one involving a fight on a garbage truck-- were choppy and consequently, murky and disjointed. | | LOG IN TO COMMENT ON THIS REVIEW! |

 | | | | | It's a knockout....my favorite Corey Yuen Kwai film and one of my favorite Jet flicks (behind _OUATIC_ I and tied or slightly ahead of _OUATIC_ II). It's star-studded (Anita Mui is enjoyable as ever and kicks mucho ass, as does wonder-kid Tse Miu (from _GOG2_ and _New Legend of Shaolin_) and a trio of bad-guy goons played by Yu Rong-Guong, Lo Wei Kwong, and Ngai Sing, who do some truly amazing work...although Yu overacts a bit...wow, what a meandering sentence) and the action set-pieces and melodrama are balanced very well. Yuen Kwai directs with great flair and a sure hand, and the goofiness is kept, thankfully, to a minimum. The plot involves the Jet as a mainland cop sent to HK to infiltrate a triad group led by Yu; a basic premise to be sure, but handled quite well and very entertainingly. This movie does not disappoint! | | LOG IN TO COMMENT ON THIS REVIEW! |
