A wacky movie that I really enjoyed a lot. The action sequences make up for any shortcomings others find bothersome.

Yup, it's more of that wacky "Chop Socky" from China! But for the record, I must say that unless you're an ANDY LAU fan, you'll either going to really like or really hate this COREY YUN (long time JET LI Martial Arts "fight scene" choreographer) directed movie. The same definitely applies for the sequel as well (starring ANDY LAU and ROSAMUND KWAN). So I don't really think there's any in-between when it comes to these two movies. Let's see, we've got HK fav, ANDY LAU going up against pop-singer turned actor, AARON KWOK in some truly unique and outrageous Kung-Fu fight scenes. All the appropriate food groups are represented here: you've got people running up the sides of walls, super-jumping and flying through the air (oh, you've seen 'em before, the wire-work kind), missile guided swords, black magic spells, fighting upside down on the ceiling, you name it! It's great fun to watch indeed! I can think of no better way to spend a rainy afternoon than to kick back with a mixed drink, and watch the over-the-top, wire-filled wonders of all those Oriental fellas kicking the snot out of each other. Oh, I almost forgot, there is actually a story here but who really cares about that anyway. But for those of you who are interested in such trivial matters, here's how it all breaks down: ANDY LAU, his buddy, and his would-be girlfriend (GLORIA YIP) are all "Super Cops" hunting down bad guys. What I mean by "Super Cops", is that they all have that superhero powered Kung-Fu ability going for them. Andy's girlfriend busts a criminal boss and sends him straight to prison, well, after stabbing out his eyes in a fight anyway. Crime doesn't pay, remember? Anyway, the boss gets his number one apprentice (bad boy, AARON KWOK) to break him out of jail. He then asks Aaron to kill him for allowing himself to be captured. Aaron obliges the old fella and vows revenge. And promptly goes on to terrorize Andy and company over the next hour and a half. A couple of them get killed, there's the big showdown between good and evil, and that's the end of the flick. Pretty simple, huh? But it works! And if you're like me, you didn't go into this thing expecting an Oscar-caliber plot here. You're here for the one, and only one reason, the ass-whipping, bone-crunching, gravity-defying, break-neck frantic, frenzied hands-throwing of the Chinese "Chop Socky" Kung-Fu Theatre! And that, my friend, is the gospel!

Ugh. Maybe I just didn't get it or I expected too much, but Savior of the Soul was bad.

Anita Mui was annoying, Aaron Kwok was dull, Andy Lau was too girly... actually, the only person I liked was the man at the beginning.

The action scenes nor the comedy grabbed me in particular. Whoop-dee-doo, I say.

It's up to you whether you want to buy this or not. Maybe upon a second viewing I might appreciate it more.

Another smash hit of HK movies. Great love story, some good laughs and great fighting scenes (swordfighting while the characters float through a large hall hanging on silk, and the silver fox trying to convert his opponents to "horrible angels"). A must see!

Absolutely fabulous. The fight scenes are few, but they are some of the best I've ever seen. Aaron Kwok plays a really slick villain in the movie and looks really wicked when high on the chemicals he sniffs. Super sweet movie to own and show off to your friends.
