The first thing that struck me, when watching this movie, was how different it felt to other Taiwanese indie flicks. Wong Tao put a lot of good ideas and interesting little touches in, here and there. It also has good production value and is in the eastern "western" style, lone silent protagonist and all. Tommy Lee did the choreography for this, and I have to say that it is not his best work. But with people like Wong Tao, Tung Wei, and Ko Fei facing off, it is still slightly above average. Tommy himself plays the villain, sporting a hunchback...again. And he does a good job as well. There is really a lot of cool stuff in this movie, such as Ko Fei's clean freak killer charater, Wong Tao's extendable nunchacku, the deadly fan ladies, etc. I wish the fights had been tighter. But the film as a whole is still most definitely worth a look.

Pretty good movie that has a western movie feel to it. Could have been better, but worth having in your collection.

I'm a sucker for Wang Tao fu flicks. He has the misfortune of starring in a lot of independent fu flicks that more often then not suffer from shoddy editing that takes away the impact of the fight scenes. But in saying that, he is up there as one of the best fu actors of his generation, intense with a capital "I"--dare I say almost on the intensity level of the great Bruce Lee. Every fu flick he is in is almost garanteed to get you emotionally involved with his character as you ride the wave with him on his path of destruction. This flick is no different. He is outstanding as a mute, and all bit players are good as well--Ko Fei is wicked as one of Wang Tao's first real fights and Tommy is equally evil as a Hunchback master of a gang. As a side note, I'm sure Tommy likes playing hunchback characters, as he has played this type before!! Strange. Recommended.

This is a personal favorite of mine. I saw it a long time ago and have been looking for a clean version for years. Terrific story using a supposedly mute, vengeful young man. This is Wang Tao's best acting performance and he has made a lot of terrific films. The fact that the does not have a lot of dialog, especially between the two main characters, makes it even more powerful. It is one the best of ALL time!!

I was really worried purchasing a movie that's picture is not of today's standards, but the movie is so good you don't mind. This was the first time I've seen a Wang Tao flick, but if this is anything to go by I will be buying more of his movies. Also the fact that the guy dosen't say a word through the whole movie speaks volumes of how entertaining it must be. CHECK IT OUT!!!

This movie brings on the best fighters together. Very cool movie and it's rare too. Like the other titles released by Rarescope, it is a must-have. So don't be late to get this.

It is your standard old school kung fu flick. A 'dumb' man sets out on revenge against the Black Dragon gang. On his journey he befriends a child and a government offical who was sent to take out the gang for peace for the people. There is a steady stream of fight scenes, to the final battle of the hunch-back leader of the Black Dragon gang. I enjoyed it, the plot is standard, and a bit wishy-washy but the fights are numerous which gets my 4 stars.

I’m truly amazed; I never thought this movie would be like this. I feel that movie should have an alternative title called The Silent Killer from Canton. It would have added a sense where this movie is going. Also, I feel this movie is highly in the Shaw and Golden Harvest tradition.

The story is decent and Wong Tao carries off his character with charisma, but the fighting is not as strong as some of his other features.

Acceptable "old school" martial arts. If you've seen many kung fu movies, then the revenge plot is nothing new, but I still like to collect as many these flicks from the 1970s to early 1980s as possible with straightforward fight scenes. For my taste, the less wire work and computer effects, the better.

I wanted to give it a five however this is not the best martial arts film I've ever seen--but it was close. This movie is spectacular; it was very well made. I will not bore you with the subject matter or theme, I will add that you must have this movie in your collection. It's truly a good movie.

Along Comes A Tiger.

I have seen this movie only once before on the big screen in the late 1970s and after that viewing I was convinced that it was an instant classic. 'Along comes a tiger' never received widespread release with the VHS/ BETAMAX boom in the late 1970s and early 1980s, and quite in vain I sought this very good addition to the Kung Fu movie genre. Seeing this movie now again after some 30 years simply confirms its status as a classic. 'Along comes a tiger ' borrows its plot from the Sergio Leone western' Once upon a time in the west', with a quite menacing Tommy Lee playing the Henry Fonda part and Wang Tao (in the best part of his career) playing the Charles Bronson role. As with its source, 'Along comes a tiger' has several flashbacks but this does not by any means represent a slavish reproduction of a western often considered as the best of all time. A young boy who follows 'Miracle Man' the Wang Tao character around for much of the movie, clearly represents the lost innocence and youth cruelly usurped by the Tommy Lee character, the leader of the morally bankrupt Black Dragon clan. The movie has more depth in its characterization than most others in the martial arts genre. The movie is riddled with violence, but tenderness pervades it intermittently. It is also amongst the best photographed martial arts movies. There are deceitful characters around each nook and cranny but the movie is not without its moments focusing on character growth and redemption. Women characters are given small but significant parts in developing the main theme of revenge versus forgiveness/ redemption. So all round it is a superior kung fu movie.

'Along comes a tiger' crackles along at a brisk pace and does not quite have any of those interminably long scenes as its inspirational source, 'Once upon a time in the West'. The movie plays out briskly while it has time to ponder on themes of forgiveness, the nature of heroism and evil.

As with other classics in which he was involved like 'Secret Rivals', '10 Brothers from Shaolin' and 'The Hot , the Cool and the Vicious', Tommy Lee as the fighting choreographer excels himself here. The fighting sequences are quite distinctive with much focus on the various hand technique styles on display. the final confrontation features a series of weapons all adroitly used by the protagonist and the antagonist. This eagerly awaited showdown between Tommy Lee and Wang Tao does not disappoint. Tommy Lee is the most underrated figure in the martial arts movie world. How many people are aware that it was he who choreographed the seminal 'Secret Rivals'? Either as an actor, often cast as a hunchback villain, or as choreographer the man deserves cult status.

The final showdown between Wang Tao and Tommy Lee is especially good, but it is the earlier showdown with Philip Kao Fei (in a scene stealing role) that in my view is the best scene. Philip Kao Fei portrays a menacingly ruthless killer replete with aristocratic habits and clothes.

Wang Tao as the 'mute' does his best work in this movie with a series of subtle and robust expressions that show much of his inner turmoil. In the absence of a co star like either Dorian Tam or John Liu, he shines and carries the movie in a difficult non- speaking part effortlessly. The movie is very well cast with several of the actors in lesser parts doing well like for instance Jimmy Lee. The latter plays a villainous character called Lo Lieh and this parody of a great Kung fu movie character serves to lighten things up in a movie that has as its principal subject the dark matter of revenge.

Stephen Tung as the cynical but ultimately tragic investigator is also very good in a role that equals that of the part he played in the brilliant'10 Shaolin Brothers'.

'Along Comes a Tiger' is arguably the best film that stars Wang Tao (and he has an impressive list of classics) and should easily earn its place amongst the top ten Kung Fu movies of all time. But this as much a Tommy Lee movie and his role cannot afford to be underestimated.

The world wide release of 'Along Comes a Tiger' on DVD is a major event in the history of the kung fu movie.

It is my favorite kung fu movie of all time. I first saw on 42nd St in N.Y. City around 1982. At that time it was released as "Fist Like Lee". It was THE movie that hooked all my friends and me on kung fu films!!

I have been looking for this movie for about 10 years. I was only able to find an old copy in German on videotape, but I still watch it often. I am soooo excited to finally have a good DVD copy!!! Thank you, Thank you, THANK YOU!!!
