| Overview: | At the beginning of the nineties, a sub-genre called "bikini-movie" developed in the sexploitation sector of American cinema. The roots of this genre originate from beach-movies which were being produced in the Unites States during the second part of the last century. The plot of a "bikini-movie" is rather simple: a group of attractive bikini-clad girls flirt with surf champions and in the meantime they attempt to save a hotel, a drive-in or a similar structure from a threat, which can go from the closing down of the activity due to financial reasons or strange supernatural events.
With "Beach Babes from Beyond", David DeCoteau enters into this genre and adds certain important variations, starting from the extraterrestrial origin of the three beautiful characters who happen to land on a beach in California during an intergalactic trip which goes wrong. Along with this idea (which reverses the point of inspiration from the blockbuster starring Geena Davis and Jeff Goldblum, "Earth Girls Are Easy", where three strapping aliens land on our planet), DeCoteau gambles the appeal of his film on the presence of a cast which includes many family members of great Hollywood stars, from Joey Travolta (John's brother), to Don Swayze (brother of the more famous Patrick), Joe Estevez (the youngest of Martin Sheen's brothers) and Jackie Stallone (Sylvester's mother); without forgetting Burt Ward, who played the role of Robin alongside Adam West in the famous television series "Batman". Another important name is Linnea Quigley, in the role so well-suited to her of the evil woman, who is at the same time wicked and seductive. With this role, she lives up to the definition of scream-queen which she earned herself over the years, starring in American independent horror films. Out of the three main characters, only Nicole Posey did not continue her career in films, whereas Tamara Landry and Sarah Bellomo went on to successfully star in the soft and hard film sector, using the stage names Shelby Lane and Roxanne Blaze.
