This is a little known gem of one of the better `ghost stories' flooding the market after the success of A Chinese Ghost Story produced a year earlier. Joey Wong did a number of tales as a beautiful ghost---there's something very appealing about her long hair, flowing robes and that disarming smile---and here is a chance to see her again. What sets this movie above most others of this kind is the quality given to moody lighting, camera work, sets, costumes and story. It is a tight plot well crafted and a joy to watch. Yes, it has the off beat singing, ghost hunting Taoist priest, abandoned house, vengeful ghost leader (although `King' is a bit odd considering the leader is a very lovely and wicked woman) the confused, love struck Scholar and of course, Joey. Because of this movie's particular high production values I'd include this as another introduction to the ghost story format. You won't be disappointed. One and a half thumbs up.
