One of my favorites. Carter Wong's best performance without question. Definitely a must-have if you are a true collector of old school flicks, and I have over 150 of the best on film.

Did I enjoy this film? Was it totally outlandish and bizarre? The answer to these questions is yes. This is a very strange film by Joseph Kuo with great choreography by Yuen Wo Ping.

Carter Wong is an invincible white-haired superman doing bad deeds along with fellow bad guy Lo Lieh. After killing a heroic teacher portrayed by Lung Fei, the remnants of his school seek revenge in the forms of Mark Long and Jack Long. Eventually an old schoolmate sick of Carter's evil deeds clues our heroes in on how to defeat him!

Carter Wong's character was strange, as is the mythological origin on how he became so powerful. The action was plenty, the choreography above average, the plot easy to follow, which adds up to an enjoyable old school classic--if, and I say again if, you can suspend your disbelief in some areas. This film is bizarre but in a good way.

Highly recommended for action lovers, and lovers of the weird!

First class action. The plot works but is nothing special. Watch this one for the fights, pure and simple.

Give it up for Carter Wong! Bravo!

This movie is non-stop action from beginning to end. If you don't have this movie in your collection, the boogie man is going to get you.

A strange story of an invincible fighter whose only weakness is when he is laughing.

One of Carter Wong's better performances.

Carter Wong has been in a lot of worse films, and the martial arts scenes (60% of the film?) are very well done. Reviews are supposed to be of the film, rather than the DVD - but when the only DVDs available have the mediocre transfer and incredibly awful English dubbing found here, it's hard to take the film very seriously or to enjoy it as much as it deserves.

Another significant problem with enjoying "Born Invincible" is that, very typically for Joseph Kuo, the initial characterization of Tai Chi and Tai Chi practitioners is just bizarre.

A Joseph Kuo classic, or so they say. I never liked this movie much. So when it was reffered to me, back in the day, I was all excited, because there was no end to people's praise. But it didn't kick my ass like I thought it would. I guess it's not a bad movie, I just don't dig it.

It has fights o' plenty, no cross-eyed comedy in sight, Jack and Mark Long doing their thing, Carter Wong rocking some mean Qi Gong skills, and crisp choreo from Yuen Wo-Ping. And yet, all these things combined, failed to light my fire. I don't really know why.

Maybe it's all the small things adding up: Carter's girly voice, the stupid hairstyles on Yuen Kwai and Yuen Shun Yee, the lack of narrative, the weird sound effects...or maybe I'm just an old jaded bastard, and maybe people should just ignore this review, and check it out for themselves.

YThe girly voice and the weird sound effects are definitely enough to downgrade this. The confusion of Tai Chi with the most outlandish myths about Qi Gong is probably enough all by itself. I've seen a lot worse, but "Born Invincible" is simply bizarre.Jeffrey Frawley

Just wanted you to know how I enjoyed the movie. Every part of the movie was right on time.

The action was great from the beginning to the end.

Great action movie. My top pick. I love a great villain who is hard to beat. The villain was a Tai Chi expert who was basically invincible unless you found his vulnerable spot. Almost like Pai Mei from the White Lotus Clan. Great action sequences.

Favorite quote: "What's that? You dare do that? Right".

"Born Invincible" is the best Carter Wong film I've seen. Lo Lieh is his cohort who looks for a master who witnessed all of their crimes so they must get revenge. The school where the old man and his daughter seek refuge are no match for the two chiefs. And so on, and so on...just check it out. Didn't like the ending, that's why I can't give it 5 stars.

The fights in this film are well-choreographed and there are plenty of them, but most of them fall prey to what has to be the most ridiculous device in the history of old-school kungfu: the hidden weak point. That concept is taken to ridiculous extremes in ths film. For instance, during Carter Wong's training sequences, he stabs himself repeatedly in the armpit with no damage at all. On top of that, we learn that not only does he have only one weak-point, it seems he can move this point around to eight different places. This ridiculous notion makes all of the fights, until the end of the film, utterly lacking in suspense because it is almost impossible to hurt the lead villain. Also, the high-pitched voice that supposedly is a side effect of training in tai chi, the invincible style, is just plain silly.

Another small point that I found to be ridiculous was the seeming ubiquitousness of Carter Wong's presence. It didn't seem to matter where the students hid, Carter Wong, out of the middle of nowhere, seemed to always wander upon them at the most inopportune times.

For the people who take solace in seeing Lo Lieh's name in the credits, I will warn you that his screen time is limited in this film. This film would have benefitted immensely if he were the lead villain. Carter Wong pales in comparison.

Okay, first let me say that generally I am not a Carter Wong fan. Secondly, I have watched a LOT of old school martial arts movies. This is a WINNER! I held off for tthree years and finally bought it. I was pleasantly surprised to find that, aside from C.W., three of my favorites are in this movie: Lo Leih, and Jack and Mark Lung. The fighting is great, the story pretty typical, but very watchable. The only thing I did NOT like about this film is that annoying whistle-like sound effect that is used whenever C.W. gets positioned to fight. Believe me, for this price you cannot go wrong. I even like C.W. as the "invincible" villain in this.

Very good movie. Carter Wong and Lo Lieh are excellent as the villains. Lots of entertaining fights and a plot twist or two thrown in. This movie is a lot of fun.

"Born Invincible" is one of those good vs. evil, train hard and get revenge old school classics. It features a great cast with the likes of the villainous Lo Lieh and Carter Wong as two evil masters. Carter Wong's portrayal of the white-haired Tai Chi master killer is truly outstanding, and his moves will make you rewind the DVD repeatedly. Other noticeable performances came from Jack and Mark Long from "7 Grandmasters" and "Mystery of Chess Boxing" fame and Corey Yuen and Yuen Shun-Yee of "Dance of the Drunk Mantis" playing different student roles.

The movie contained all the ingredients of a classic: A great story, villains, great training & fighting sequences, perseverance, beautiful choreography and directing and an unexpected strategy to defeat the seemingly invincible Carter Wong. Watch out for Wong's high pitched voice and incredible drawings with his feet while fighting. This is quite a memorable movie and one in which I am proud to have in my possession.

I haven't seen too many movies with Carter Wong. But this one made me a huge fan of Mr. Wong. The way he beats the movie's so-called heroes is awesome. Just when you think they have the upper hand, they die. He is an unstoppable killing machine. You NEED to buy this one and I GUARAN"DAMN"TEE you will enjoy it.

Terrific!!!

If there is a movie that could be truly qualified as "non-stop action" then this is it.

This story moves at a fast and furious pace and all the fights are imaginatively choregraphed and a real pleasure to watch.

This is pure Kung-fu movie at its best. A rare gem, if you believe me. And consider yourself lucky that you could buy this [on] dvd because when I watched this masterpiece some years ago, it was with a dubbed VHS copy and the overall quality is very bad.

Two other reasons to buy this [on] dvd:

First, they don't make movies like this anymore. If you have seen the new Jet Li movies made in Hollywood then you know what I mean.

Second: sure there is "Drunken Monkey", directed by Liu Chia Liang, the new effort to resurrect the Kung-fu genre and it's pretty good. But too much of comedies prevent it from being great. Meanwhile, ["Born Invincible"] does NOT suffer from bad humour, if there is any humour at all. It's all about revenge so there is no place for bad comedy here. Which is a great thing to me.

Carter Wong lends his star power to this otherwise small scale simple tale of a villianous Tai Chi master. The plot is passable and forgettable, but the highlight are Carter Wong's fight scenes, demonstrating his Tai Chi style, climaxed by his simultaneous drawing of a Tai Chi symbol with his feet. His fighting is not confined to the final battle. On the contrary, his fights are plentiful and very satisfying. While the movie is not what I would call a top-shelf movie, it is very entertaining in the 70s classic tradition.
