The South Shaolin Master All Content Used With Permission. ![]() "The South Shaolin Master" is a great showcase of Wushu weapons and hand-to-hand fighting. This film also shows off some spectacular scenery and architecture. ![]() Very good old school kung fu movie which features tons of hand to hand and weapons fighting styles. Highly recommended. -William Giordanella (see my profile) ![]() ![]() Not many people may have heard of "South Shaolin Master" because practically everyone is unknown, but it is a well made and great looking wushu film in the style of the "Shaolin Temple" series that starred Jet Li. The martial artists in "South Shaolin Master" aren't as memorable as Jet Li but are quite capable of performing very good wushu techniques. Also, there isn't any wire-fu that is noticeable for purists. Certainly worth adding to your collection. ![]() This is a high-quality production from China, and the story involves a Taiping rebel agent on the run from the Manchu authorities, aided by a patriotic opera troupe. The basic plot has been done many times over by other films, particularly if you've seen the product the Shaw Brothers Studios put out in the 1970s, but this story of sacrifice and vengeance features plenty of excellent fight scenes done the old-fashioned way without excessive wire work and special effects. It's great to see a new generation of martial arts show off their skills.
