As the end credits rolled on "Emanuelle in America", I was left wondering what the purpose of this film was. A daft question, I guess, as this is a pure exploitation movie and designed for the sole purpose of making money. It just surprised me that D'Amato's film ends with some major plot threads hanging in the air, never to be resolved. Some would argue that this adds realism to the piece, which may be true.

Laura Gemser is delightful as the lead, Emanuelle. She has a timeless beauty and looks simply amazing throughout the proceedings.

I was actually surprised at the inclusion of the hardcore scenes in the version I watched. They proved far from titillating and out-of-synch with the rest of the film and the horse scene simply has to be seen to be believed.

A very seedy 3.5 stars. Viewers may feel like a hot shower after viewing this one.

Onto the review. If you're looking for just some little softcore flick to watch with buddies while playing cards, this ain't it. It's starts off like most of the Emanuelle movies...she's a photographer of erotic nudes as well as a reporter somewhere. She goes undercover to report on a brothel and things are tame, at first. Full frontal nudity and some light lesbianism. Then things get more interesting. One woman puts on a horse show while all the girls watch with their "dates" for the evening, then an all out orgy (hardcore except for Laura). Moments later she's moved on to another story with more sex slaves, this time they're men catering to bored and horny women. Laura gets caught with her cameras and is off to her next story. Now it gets really weird and why it was banned in so many countries for so long. The movie turns into a snuff film with Laura not knowing if she's really witnessing this or if she's just dreamed it.

All in all, it's the most erotic and hardcore Emanuelle I've witnessed. Not knowing what to expect from moment to moment made it hard to not watch. The woman, overall, were a treat to watch even without it going all the way.

If you don't want to watch hardcore, stay away from this film. I enjoyed it too much and have watched it several times. Friends were shocked and tell their friends. Enjoy.
