ABOUT THE DIRECTOR:
Capturing the human psyche in depth by a master of thrillers.
Director Kim Sung-hong attempts to reveal the meaning of both love and hatred in this film. In "Say Yes," he shows how powerless people can be when unmotivated acts of violence and the fear of death confront them. By doing this, he criticizes a part of modern society in which people seek violence and cheap thrills.
Director Kim Sung-hong is Korea's most successful and premier storyteller. He won Best Screenplay for his film "Happiness is Not a Grade" at the Baeksang Art Awards in 1989. He also wrote numerous scripts such as the "Two Cops" series and "Who Saw the Dragon's Claw?" He showed his gifted directing talent in "Fingernail" and "The Hole," and has been critically praised as the preeminent director of thriller films in Korea.
Compared to his past films, where he shows his specialty in showing the details of the human psyche, this time he adds speedy and dynamic action sequences in "Say Yes."
PRODUCTION NOTES:
Dynamic visuals that stretch throughout Korea's natural landscapes. Unique locations that follow the actors' flow of emotions.
The way the serial killer tenaciously chases after the couple on their trip is uniquely structured into a road movie.
Different from past thriller films, which were shot in the limited space of a set, at least 80% of the film was shot on location around the country, presenting a slew of unforgettable images.
What's more, in order to help the actors' flow of emotions to manifest effectively, about 80% of the scenes were shot in order. By doing this, it captured their psychological transformations, the key points of the thriller genre.
PRODUCTION NOTES:
An unexpected terror interrupts a happy moment. Two people try to hold on to their love in the face of death.
What would you do if you ran into someone in the street who assaults you for no reason? Or in the middle of an exciting road trip, you coincidentally meet a stranger who asks for a ride and find out later he's trying to commit a cruel murder on you?
As two people unexpectedly fall into a life and death situation, "Say Yes" captures how the human mind can go to extremes.
A man who resorts to violence for no reason coincidently meets a very powerless couple on a trip. At the face of cruel and unbearable violence, they fall into a helpless state no mater how strong their will is. At the spur of the moment, they must decide whether love is an unconditional choice.
Considering this, "Say Yes" realistically exposes the violence and madness trapped deep inside our mind, while candidly bringing to light the true nature of human instincts and what really lies beneath our society.
PRODUCTION NOTES:
Korea's most terrifying thriller awaits you. A deep journey into the darkest corners of the human mind.
Thrillers are widely sought after because of their intricate depiction of the human psyche within the backdrop of complex stories. As characters in this genre must cope with mysterious events that unexpectedly unfold before their eyes, these experiences absorb the audience not as an observer, but rather as a participant.
In his past films, such as "Fingernail" and "The Hole," Director Kim Sung-hong teams up with writer Yeo Hye-young once again in "Say Yes," and achieves another success story with the contributions of star actor, Park Joong-hoon. Combining the expertise and talent of these veterans, they create a unique thriller that has never existed in Korean cinema before ? "A Hardgore Thriller."
"Say Yes" is different from past thrillers since it strays away from contrived plots and typical confrontations between characters found in this genre. The fear and hatred that lies deep in the human psyche are naturally expressed through the film's lifelike characters, realistic story and stunning visuals.
