ALTERNATE SYNOPSIS:
The final entry in director Feng Xiaoning's "War and Peace" trilogy unfolds in August 1945, shortly after the atomic bomb attack on Nagasaki.
During a harsh winter season, a Soviet Army unit enters China and engages Japanese troops in a big battle. When the fighting is over, there are only three survivors: a Russian soldier, a Japanese soldier and a Chinese soldier. Cut off from the rest of the world and not entirely trusting one another, they band together on a long and danger-filled journey and gradually develop a friendship that crosses borders.
