I've started collecting the Tomie series after I discovered Junji Ito's mangas. So far, this film is the best that I've seen to date. While it isn't clearly based on one of Ito's stories - actually all of the movies are "free" adaptations - I believe it captured the spirit of his stories more than the other films. The story is interesting and has a genuinely creepy feel to it. The actress playing Tomie has the ability to move between whimsical, alluring and menacing in a heartbeat. She was truly unsettling. While the was no nudity or even a hint of sexual activity, many of the scenes were amazing erotically charged, yet tasteful. This film offers a unique premise and is supported by very good casting. I found the ending a little less than satisfying, but enjoyed the ride getting there. It provides a very creepy atmosphere and has some unique plot points that set it apart from other films of the genre.
