| Fox presents the movie in Anamorphic widescreen 2:35:1 and uncut,and this region 1 dvd seems to have an abundance of red in their frames. ( see where Sammo is in the tub of hot medicine). The film is nearly perfect considering this is 1979 Hong Kong film. Excellent contrastand colors and is very sharp and detailed. The print is remarkably clean and has been nicely remastered. There are some faint vertical lines that appear in some scenes but are few and nothing too distracting,and there is only the most minimal amount of dirt could be seen. The sound is very nicely boosted to 5.1 in the Fox version for both the original Cantonese and English dub. Both soundtracks are clean and clear. The only grief with this disc is the dub titles.This is when they make subtitles from an exact translation of the English dub. Although the Engliash subs are not exact some are adequate. It's no big deal but goes to show you someone,somewhere was lazy to do it right.
Fox's MAGNIFICENT BUTCHER is worth picking up if you don't have it. It's a worthwhile upgrade over previous versions. Fox has done a very good job with this movie. Finally, people in Region 1 have something forward to look to. Go but it now. Recommended. |
