"Fist of the Unicorn" is noted more for its historical trivia than for the value of the movie itself. In late 1972/early 1973, Bruce Lee was at the top of his popularity and agreed to help out his good friend, Unicorn Chan (who appeared with Bruce in "Fist of Fury" and "Way of the Dragon"), with his first starring feature by lending his name as "Guest Kung fu Instructor."

However, when the film hit theatres, candid scenes of Bruce instructing fight scenes ended up in the final cut and were worked into the plot. Not only did Bruce's name appear in the credits as top billing, but his image was scattered on the film's movie posters as well. Though no legal actions were taken, Bruce was furious and issued a public statement disassociating himself with the film. It's still unknown today whether Unicorn Chan or the film's shady movie producers were to blame for disrespectfully cashing in on Bruce's name. Despite static, Bruce and Unicorn Chan remained good friends. Sadly, Bruce would pass away several months after the film's release. Ironically, Unicorn Chan would be killed in a fatal car crash a few years later.

This English dubbed version has about 10 seconds of Bruce Lee footage (the original Hong Kong theatrical version was rumored to have over 15 minutes); the Mandarin print has a shorter running time with only a couple of seconds of the same Bruce Lee footage. Other features on this disc include the Betty Ting Pei-narrated documentary "The Last Days of Bruce Lee" and some rare press conference footage featuring Bruce Lee.
