A very fun, beautifully shot (if sometimes awkwardly paced) supernatural Japanese action drama. Very different from Fukasaku's legendary original, in many ways this film is just as good. However, only half of the fights here really hit the mark (those that do are great), and the lesser half are really quite boring. But even then one can revel in the film's visuals. Recommended for any fan of modern Japanese cinema, especially for those of jidai-geki or supernatural Japanese films. |
