The aim was to make a programme that took the pulse of Hong Kong's youth. Most of the main actors in the series were new to television, new to the audience. They were chosen for their freshness, their vitality, the way that they represented the spirit of Hong Kong's teenagers.

But their role in the overall development of the series was greater than simply acting. In the initial stages of casting, we spoke to them, learned their stories, tuned into their likes and dislikes, their hopes and fears. Elements of the stories of their lives were incorporated into the plot. In the end, many of them played parts with strong elements of who they are off the screen as well as on.

It's an approach that struck a chord with the teen audience. On the website that accompanied the series, the characters instantly developed a loyal fan base, of young people who admired them, or found their hopes and dreams reflected there.
