ALTERNATE SYNOPSIS:
Award-winning Korean director Kim Ki-Duk ("Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter...And Spring") brings us this haunting vision of two unlikely lovers trapped in Seoul's red light district. When a local pimp is publicly humiliated by a snobbish college girl, he manipulates her into a life of sexual slavery at his brothel. As he watches her nightly humiliation from behind a two-way mirror, his obsessive desire consumes him while she learns there is no love more complete than her captor's.

Kim Ki-Duk drives his characters to the edge of hair-trigger violence and despair, shattering conventional ideals of love in one of the most controversial films in recent years.

ALTERNATE SYNOPSIS:
A tough gangland leader experiences love at first sight when he encounters a young college student in a crowd. With no concern for public conduct, or the desires of the girl, he forces himself upon her and kisses her in front of her boyfriend. Totally unapologetic, the man is beaten by police and left disgraced.

Desperate to see her again, the man decides to return to the same place. Soon, the student re-appears and she and her boyfriend go on a window shopping trip. However, her desperate lack of money leads her to commit an unfortunate crime, for which her victim demands an uncompromising, pre-planned punishment: She must work as a prostitute to pay the money back. And it is the man who fell in love with her in the crowd that day that will be responsible for taking care of her

Dark, daring and brutal, this twisted tale from the director of The Isle challenges romantic ideals and breaks with conventional notions of love to deliver one of the most powerful and controversial films of recent years.
