Plot:	Cairo. The traumatized detective Fisher is on the trail of a serial killer, but can't seem to make any progress. Overview:	Cairo. The traumatized detective Fisher goes to see a psychiatrist and, under hypnosis, relates his last assignment. He talks about his trip to Germany where he had been put on a case: a serial killer who kills only female lottery ticket sellers. Fisher goes to see Osborne, his old professor and author of Element of Crime. The book presents Osborne's treatise that for an investigator to find his suspect and understand the mystery of the murderer's behaviour, he has to identify with the criminal. He puts Fisher onto the traces of Harry Grey. Fisher applies the scientific approach theorized by Osborne: to study the nature of the crime you have to identify with the presumed criminal, learn his habits to understand his motives. And Fisher begins to increasingly identify with Harry Grey. Osborne, according to police chief Kramer, was the serial killer.
