Everything seems really suspicious and more people start disappearing from the school. The students are freaking out and so are the teachers, will anyone be able to solve this mystery which is going on in their school, or will they all disappear?
REVIEW:
My expectations for Whispering Corridors were low, just about as low as they could get actually as I really hated Whispering Corridors 3. Well, watching the third movie in the saga first was a pretty stupid idea. Anyway, Whispering Corridors is your average ghost flick and since I'm not to keen on many Korean horrormovies, I can safely say that while this went beyond my expectations, it was still not quite my cup of tea. Whispering Corridors manages to make the same mistake that many Korean horror-movies seem to do, they start out brilliantly but in the end it's all just a big confusing mess and it's just not very interesting to watch twist after twist.
The director, Ki-Hyung Park, who had nothing to do with its sequels, makes a good debute as a director. There are many creepy angles and even though you just know that something is going to happen, you still jump when it happens. The inexperienced cast feels stiff and the acting seems somewhat forced which didn't help the movie to get the right atmosphere. There were also way too many characters to follow in this movie and I kept on mixing two of them up all the time which was deeply frustrating.
Considering the fact that this is a well known movie which has gotten no less than two sequels and a couple of awards, I'm surprised that there wasn't anything special about it. It was really just your average Korean horrormovie. I think that the idea of a girl school might have been original for this movie but I've seen this concept over and over again and it's getting sickening so for me it felt everything but original. Still it was a pretty descent movie and it surpassed my expectations so I'm more than satisfied.
GORE:
A lot of blood splatter but no real gore. I thought this movie was meant to be gory?
SOUNDTRACK:
Some violin music, some choir music and those damn annoying bells that kept clinging and clonging through the entire film. I was not impressed.
BOTTOM LINE:
Standard movie, you get what you're promised, Whispering Corridors that is. You figure out how interesting that sounds for yourself. It was a bit too depressing for my taste, I generally dislike when women can't keep their eyes dry and instead decide to weep like little children for half an hour of valuable running time. Still, much better than the dreadful Whispering Corridors 3: Wishing Stairs. |
