"Mad stylist" is pretty much "Natural born killers" meets "Dr. Lamb", with a dash of Wong Kar Wai, only not quite as accomplished and appealing as the above mentioned films. Sure, there's gore (although slightly trimmed of its nastier moments), and the film has the visual flair of a colorful acid trip spiced with teenage angst and HK (cat. 3) madness, but it never quite manages to conjure up that flamboyant visual grandeur that is Oliver Stone's film or the greatness of those nasty little Cat. 3 classics we all love! The film is vile, demented and pretty graphic at times though, and it possesses a certain charm despite its obvious plagiarism, so anyone into the more extreme HK cinema would be wise to check this film out. |
