PLOT
The thrills continue in this second part of this cherished adventure, created by the renowned director Chu Yuan and ingenious novelist Chin Yung. Only the union of the title weapons can save the six remaining martial arts sects who are vying for mastery. So just sit back and enjoy the movie event which spawned a legacy that continues even today with a long-running, internationally loved television series, a role-playing game, and even collectible replicas of the Heaven Sword and Dragon Sabre themselves!

THOUGHTS ON THE MOVIE
I thought the first movie, Heaven Sword and Dragon Sabre was a bit confusing, especially with all the names thrown at you, it made it quite difficult to keep up with the story. Do I think part 2 was any easier to follow, Yes, somewhat. The only reason why part 2 was not as complex as the first, was because the director chose to stay with a scene a bit longer then the scenes in the first movie. What this does is to let the viewer understand what is going on and keep up with the plot as the movie progresses. The beginning of this movie is far more complex then the rest of the film. This movie, along with the first I highly recommend repeated viewings in order to take in all the information that is thrown at you. I even found myself cueing back a scene because the subtitles came and went in a flash and I didn't have enough time to properly read them. A very positive factor this movie has as opposed to its prequel, was the fact that Lo Lieh was a big part of this movie. He had a major role in this film, as well as some adequate fight time. Although it was very easy to tell when a actor was being doubled during a fight scene, it really didn't take away from the enjoyment and appreciation of the fight. Without giving away any spoilers, I can say this movie continued exactly where the first one left off. The mighty six clans were in search for the Dragon Sabre in order for the holder of this mystical weapon to be considered the best of the best in the martial world. The story was told in a more loose way as opposed to the first one, it felt more fun and not so serious as its prequel. There was really only a little over a minute worth of more action then the first, but the action in this movie was more interesting and entertaining to watch. This movie along with Heaven Sword and Dragon Sabre are both recommended purchases, but also multiple viewings should be considered to fully understand the many developments that take place throughout the 3+ hours of story you will get from both movies.

COMEDY, WAS IT FUNNY?
No comedy to report in this Shaw Bros film.

HOW'S THE ACTION?
The action was only increased a minute over the first movie, Heaven Sword and Dragon Sabre. Although this movie was not packed with fight after fight, for what was shown, it was a real treat as well as a needed reward in trying to keep up with the plot. More hand to hand took place in this movie over the first, as well as swords, bow and arrow, spear, stick, steel rings, and pole. Entertaining fight sequences from all involved in the action.

"BLOODY" GOOD OR NOT?
There may have been just a few ounces more of the red stuff in this movie when compared to Heaven Sword and Dragon Sabre. So with that said, just a few drops here or an ooze there.

STANDOUT PERFORMANCE(s)
In my review for Heaven Sword and Dragon Sabre I mentioned that Lo Lieh would not be getting my vote for Standout Performance of that movie, in fact Derek Yee got it. Well, in this movie, I have to give it up to Lo Lieh's character and Lo Lieh's performance. Lo Lieh plays Derek Yee's Godfather, whom also is apart of the "evil" Ming Cult. In the beginning of the 1st movie, HSDS, Lo Lieh's wife and child were both killed, and he knows by who. So while he is out to avenge his family being murdered, he has a revelation while being kept captive by 3 Monks of Shaolin. He realizes he has committed many sins throughout his life, and wants to change. He then has a change of heart in how he would like to deal with the person that raped and murdered his family, and then eventually changes his whole lifestyle. I'll leave it at that, I'm trying not to give away too much, sorry if I already have. Overall another solid performance from the "King Boxer" himself, for both acting and action.

RENT, BUY, OR PASS
If you have a membership at either Cinflix or Nicheflix, I would recommend you to rent this movie as well as the first one, that is as soon as they have them available for rent, to make sure it is the type of film you can appreciate and enjoy. For all you DIE HARD Shaw Bros/Celestial Collectors, this is Must Buy in my opinion, along with its prequel, Heaven Sword and Dragon Sabre.

5 Reasons why you SHOULD or SHOULDN'T buy this movie

  1. You SHOULD buy this movie if you are fascinated by those amazing looking Shaw Bros sets.
  2. You SHOULD buy this movie if you are a fan of Lo Lieh, he delivers a great performance.
  3. You SHOULDN'T buy this movie if you are expecting wall to wall action.
  4. You SHOULD buy this movie as it would make a perfect addition to your SB/Celestial movie collection.
  5. You SHOULDN'T buy this movie if you do not have a Region-Free DVD player yet, this DVD is Region 3. You may want to consider picking up the VCD, as all Celestial VCD's are Region-Free.
