Heaven Sword And Dragon Sabre All Content Used With Permission. ![]() Director Yuen Chor and star Derek Yee are a perfect fit in this adaptation of a good fantasy Wuxia. Although Yee has since proved himself as a fine director, as an actor he was best served by this sort of fantasy swordsmanship picture - and perhaps best directed by Yuen Chor. The story is exciting, the acting quite good, and the effects very pleasing. If there is any fault to this film, it is that it is incomplete and not fully comprehensible unless one watches the next film in the series - but that's not much of a problem! The next one is good too. -Jeffrey Frawley (see my profile)
![]() I really loved this film. The action was great, but it was the story that kept my attention. I'm not really a big fan of stories adapted from fantasy novels, but Chor Yuen did an excellent job of bringing out the source material from kung fu novelist Louis Cha. Derek Yee was outstanding as the lead character and the costumes and sets were equally outstanding. This movie is not for everyone, the action is not rapid and based on a lot of fighting. This movie is more story driven. The later version starring Jet Li ("Kung Fu Cult Hero"/"Evil Cult"), may suit action lovers more. However both adaptations have many similarities, so much so that if you want to know what happened with the cliff hanger ending from "Evil Cult", you might be able to find satisfaction from "Heaven Sword And Dragon Sabre" parts 1 and 2. ![]() ![]()
