ALTERNATE SYNOPSIS:
The classic Chinese folklore of the Butterfly Lovers--Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai--gets a moving and heartwarming rendition similar to Disney's MULAN in this delightful full length animated feature! Back in the Jin Dynasty, when only males were allowed to attend school, Zhu, a spirited young woman, disguises herself as a boy to be educated. She meets Liang and falls in love, but before she can tell him her true identity, Zhu's parents arranged to have her marry the son of a local merchant. She must now decide whether to succumb to the family tradition or risk it all to be with her true love. Filled with spirited musical sequences in the Disney tradition and with stunning, state of the art animation, THE BUTTERFLY LOVERS is a lovely, magical tale for the whole family!
