| "Ghosthouse 3" was also known as "House Of Sorrows" back when it was realeased. Umberto Lenzi, a very underrated director who created some really excellent crime and giallo (mystery) movies in the 1970's, was near the end of his career here.
This was the third in his series of "Ghosthouse" movies. The first "Ghosthouse" was quirky and pretty good; and the second, the "House Of Witchcraft", was almost as good. This one is not up to the those movies in the b-movie horror genre.
This one does feature a haunted house in which spirits are driven to kill those who enter it, like the first "Ghosthouse", but it's just not as well done. Still it's not a terrible movie; Lenzi holds together a coherent story and an easy to follow plot. This was his last decent movie it seems too, as future releases were much weaker than this even. There is some gore and violence as the vengeful dead strike down their victims. And this movie is a standard 1980's horror flick from the late 1980's. But it's about ghosts not a slasher or a killer. This movie is for haunted house fans and b-movie lovers.
Still, watching this movie you'd be surprised to know that this is the man who directed "Seven Blood Stained Orchids", "The Cynic, The Rat And The Fist", "Rome Armed To The Teeth", and "Eyeball", which were all top of the line for their budget class. For b-movie lovers, this is worth seeing even if it's not among Lenzi's better movies. |
