Argh! Very loud background noise. I guess that happened when they were doing the dubbing, but every time there was a fight scene the noise decreased because they didn't have to dub it. Great movie, but the noise made it annoying to watch. The previews of the movie was better.
| I gave this movie 3* mainly because I am a Jimmy Wang Yu fan. Otherwise, probably not more than 2½*. I always liked JWY because of his charisma on screen. Not a very good stylist, more of a street fighter (although he is very good with the sword in early Shaw movies in the 1960's). The story line is complicated and boring. Judy Lee is OK at best in the few fights she has (she is way much better and spectacular in One Foot Crane). Lung Fei plays his usual bad guy and gives a poor performance here. The best fighting scenes are when Jimmy Wang Yu fights a group of thugs. The finale between JWY and Chang Yi is alright but nothing too exciting! Many fights are filmed too dark and/or too close. The print is OK but the sound is not very good. You lose the sound sometime for periods of 5 to 30 seconds which is annoying. So my final comment is if you are a JWY fan, you could watch it and enjoy it to some limit. Otherwise, you much better watch JWY in classics like The Chinese Boxer (aka Hammer of God), Beach of the War God, One-Armed Boxer, The Assassin, The Broken Blade and The One-Arm Swordsman, where he is much much better. |
