| '7 Steps' wastes no time in getting going with an opening fight scene that establishes the hero as yer typical cheeky young scamp but also gives a good taste of what is to follow. The lead is extremely capable mixing opera style tumbling with fluent fast forms and the choreography is quite superb. In fact just about any of the fight scenes in this film would make a decent final showdown in any other film. However the standard just gets raised higher and higher as the film progresses.
The plot involves a corrupt general plotting to take over a town with the aid of his loyal servants; the '5 hands gang'. All members of the gang are kung fu experts and not surprisingly the hero has to battle his way through each of them to reach the stunning two on one end battle.
This is possibly the best choreography I've seen from Tommy Lee (who also provides one of the films villains) which mixes high kicks, acrobatics and some nice weapons use; all performed at high speed with very little undercranking. Best of all though is the nice camera techniques used in some of the key sequences. Shooting at a different frame rate gives the action a very sharp and vivid feel. |
