ABOUT HONG KONG LEGENDS DVDs: In virtually every instance, the remastered picture quality, sound, subtitles, menus, and special features of HKL DVDs are superior to any other version of the movie that may exist on DVD. Among Chinese film enthusiasts, HKL DVDs have become legendary in their own right. Note that some of their DVDs are all-region, while the rest are usually both R2 and R4. HKL DVDs from different countries are usually the same except for the covers.
Two artful dodgers pull a spectacular heist. Raised by a leader of an international burglary ring, they are trapped in a complicated plot of betrayal and Revenge. Nominated Best Film at the 1991 Hong Kong Film Awards.
Overview:
A trio of art burglars are working the museum circuit in Europe. In the opening sequence, Joe (Chow Yun Fat), Jim (Leslie Cheung), and Sherry (Cherie Chung) stage a daring and hair-raising heist, snatching a Modgliani from a shipping container, while in transit from the Louvre to a museum in Nice. The three are orphans, raised by a Fagin-like character named Mr. Chow (Ken Tsang), who trained them to be petty thieves. They receive a proposal from a Monsieur Le Bond in Nice. He will pay a fabulous sum if they can steal an obscure painting, hidden in a private castle on the Cote d'Azur. Joe is not worried about Jim's agility, they always worked as a team. However, they are ambushed by killers--Jim is hit before fleeing on his motorcycle, with Joe covering him from behind.
