Plot:	Three friends cherish their simple island home. But rapid industrial development makes it impossible for them to carry on their living style, and they are forced to leave their hometown in search of a brighter future, but longing to return.
Overview:	On a beautiful island in Seto Inner Sea, Seichi and Minko make their living from transporting rocks to construction sites by boats. They cherish the deepest affection for this piece of land they are attached to and enjoy their simple life there. Rapid industrial development, however, makes it impossible for them to carry on such a living style. They are forced to leave their beloved hometown in search of a brighter future, but with their everlasting longing to return. The story extols people's fondness for their native land and at the same time reflects the cruel social reality in the 1970s. Affectionately directed by Yamada Yoji, the film is considered one of the master- pieces in the history of Japanese cinema.
