The Bells Of Death All Content Used With Permission. ![]() Good but not great wuxia revenge flick. ![]() This is a solid movie. It had the feel of an old western. Highly recommended -William Giordanella (see my profile) ![]() Classy swordplay movie that's consciously styled after Italian westerns. Cool movie that hasn't been hyped to death on the internet until it recently became available with the Celestial/IVL DVD. It's worth seeing if you like older swordplay or Shaw Brothers movies. ![]() A classic example of "the hunger for revenge". Definitely one of my top-5 Shaw Bros. titles. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I pride myself on being brief and honest with my reviews...I give it a 1!!! Just out of respect for the genre. I am glad to see the martial arts movies have moved on. Light speed ahead. Instead of this movie, "Eat more chicken!" ![]() 'Bells of Death' is one of my favourite 60's wuxia flix. The story is quite simple but effective - After witnessing the murder of his family and kidnapping of his sister, Chang Yi gets trained up in the martial arts and goes off to exact his vengeance on the three responsible. This might not sound like a particularly original plot - and it isn't. The strength of 'Bells of Death' is the classy way in which the story is told, the cinematography and direction is top notch and times reminded me of a cross between a King Hu film and a Sergie Leone film which can only be a good thing! Although I am a fan of the genre I often find that the simplistic and staged fight choreography of some of these films can be a bit off-putting - this is not the case in 'Bells of Death' the action is quick, precise and bloody. Highly recommended!
