Shaolin Kung Fu Master Collection: Viewer Comments

I have been burned by kung fu box sets before. Sub-par movies that have been cropped, bad dubs without subs, and really bad transfers.

This set is just the opposite. Great movies that are true classics. Celestial did a fantastic job with the disks too. They clean, clear, and crisp. The colors pop out at you. The audio is good. The subs are fine. Nice packaging and notes.

On a Sony 32" with an Oppo DVD player, the images are stunning. I've seen all of these films previously but never before with such bright colors and clean images, including 2 of these films that I saw in the theater.

There may be some nit-picky flaws with this set, but I didn't see them. This is a must-have collection for the enthusiast or a killer introduction to the genre.

The Shaolin Kung Fu Master Collection is a dream collector's item for any person who loves original language, Celestial Shaw Brothers films. With 8 of Shaw Brothers best Shaolin titles, this set never hits a low point. Shaolin Temple is the movie that started it all, giving everyone a glimspe into Shaolin in mid 76. 5 Shaolin Masters continues the story (with different roles) and gives us more great kung fu action. Executioners from Shaolin (part two in a 3 part series) tells the story of a Shaolin disciples Son, who is bent on revenge after Pai Mei murders his father. 36th Chamber of Shaolin (The movie that made Liu famous) and its two sequels (Return and Diciples) are included for 5 hours of Lau Kar Leung Directed greatness. Eight Diagram Polefighter (Liu's best) is also availible in this collection (even with its limited connection to Shaolin), and the Jet Li mega hit, Martial Arts of Shaolin, Tops off this wonderful boxset. I'm sure all of you have heard of Celestial Shaw Brothers, so there is no need to go over how each disc looks. They all have better picture quality than movies you will see in theaters, and these came out before special effects! Audio is also good, with some ambient sound effects for 5.1 set ups. This boxset just takes the cake for being one of the best deals around, providing some of the greatest movies ever at a very discounted price. It's well worth your time and money to pick up this collection (unless you already own these movies).
