I love Jet Li. I love wushu. I did not care too much for the comedy in this one. It wasn't funny at all! The fight scenes and choreography were great, however the comedy took away from my enjoyment of this movie.

Awesome Jet Li kung fu movie.

Provides tons of fights, mild gore, little comedy, colorful settings, and cool characters. This is one of Mr. Li's early films, when he was very youthful, agile, and acrobatic. Mr. Li plays a good hearted, rebellious Shaolin monk who is on a mission to kill a ruler. On the way he meets others sent on the same mission; a certain ornament he owns may link him to the strangers' paths.

If you need to spice up your kung fu collection with quality, this is another Shaw Brothers gem from the past you must not pass up.

Eh... Too tame I think, needed more and longer fights. A classic, so for the price not a waste.

Actually came across this Jet Li movie on the whim. Typical Shaolin story. Training and fighting scenes were good, but pretty much the same as what you would find in other early Jet Li movies.

Fast paced action sequences, decent acting, but the movie was kind of long and drawn out, too much talking, but a good movie. Jet Li is young and fast!

This was the only collaboration between Jet Li and Lau Kar Leung, and I think they made a classic here. I think "Martial Arts Of Shaolin" is a blast from start to finish, with lots of great choreographed action scenes and very likable characters. I thought the scenery and costume designs were very pleasing to the eye. If you like Jet Li films and haven't seen this one yet, then just get it and, like me, you'll be glad you did.

YThis was a pretty good film, and I'm surprised Jet and Lau Kar Leung didn't make any more films together.Sgt. T

All of the stars in this movie were great, very fast-paced action and intricate fight scenes shot the old way in long shot, not with lots of camera tricks and wires. A great classic, I highly recommend this one.

"Martial Arts of Shaolin" (aka "Shaolin Temple 3") was the best of the series. This was more of a classic Jet Li style movie. I didn't care much for the storyline, but the fight scenes were nice. If you plan to watch this series, start with "Shaolin Temple" 1 and 2, then watch this installment. This was the best of the series.

What do you get when you team a young and super-energetic Jet Li with the legendary Lau Kar Leung? You get a fantastic, poetry in motion martial arts film! Add the beautiful landscape of Mainland China and you get a visually stunning gem of a movie!

I have to give props to the remaining "Shaolin Temple" movie's supporting cast also, for great forms and fight choreography in this Hong Kong/Mainland China callboration.

Some of the camera angles showed that Shaw Brothers and Lau Kar Leung were at the helm of this genre classic. However, the story could have been told with a liitle more depth, extending the short 89 minute runtime.

All in all this film is beautiful to watch and shows skilled wu shu practictioners in their prime.

I really enjoyed the third installment of the "Shaolin Temple" movie trillogy starring a young Jet Li. Like the other two, the martial arts action was outstanding. The plot was pretty decent, and the choreography for the fighting superbly done by Liu Chia Liang (a.k.a. Lau Kar Leung). I'm surprised that this is one of the only pairings between Jet Li and Liu Chia Liang, because it was a very successful one! The action sequences are the result of hard work and no wires. Liu Chia Liang (a.k.a. Lau Kar Leung) does great work with a young Jet Li!

I saw this in the theater about ten years ago and was delighted to find it again on HKFlix! This is a great film. It's somewhat halfway between old and new school as far as its style. Jet Li is his young, unbelievably agile, self here and the film has some incredible action sequences.

This would be Jet Li's final movie in the Shaolin Temple series, and a good one too.

However I only can just give it 4 stars because of the top notch brilliant action. The plot is typical: Shaolin student seeks revenge on Ching official. The downside of this film is some of the goofing around--e.g. Jet Li dressing as a woman, and a few other comedic sequences.

But the last scene in this film is worth watching by all kung fu fans. The action is fast and entertaining. The movie however is not so special, but just plain simple.

For Jet Li fans, this is a must-have; and for kung fu fans, it's worth checking out.

YI agree. Great action, but the goofing around drops this to 4 stars William Giordanella

It's really hard to explain my feelings. There is everything perfect about this masterpiece. Colorful movie with good story and excellent fights. I don't believe that any fan of the genre could dislike this film.

This was another oustanding movie enjoyed by myself and family, it featured a very young Jet Li in what must be one of his finest performances. This movie showcased drawdropping kung fu, a teasing love story and spectacular scenery (magnificent) rivalling "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" in every aspect. It's a pity that this film was done in the mid '80s as it would have copped many nominations and awards in this new age and acceptance of new wave martial arts in the United States. I truly loved this movie and will watch it sparingly to keep the flame of interest burning. Fans please purchase these earlier Jet Li titles and see his lighter side.

Kick-ass film starring none other than Jet Li! Awesome fights, but [there is] a single thing keeps this film from being perfect: that ANNOYING AND STUPID-ASS MUSIC! I wanted to punch my speakers in!!!!

Say it with me: there is such a thing as a big-budget Shaw Brothers movie! Martial Arts of Shaolin must have cost a fortune to produce, compared to other productions of this era (mid-eighties), but what a great investment. Hundreds of extras in full costume, beautiful outdoor scenes, and an actual boat and river sequence that will leave you awestruck. Oh yeah, and some guy named Jet Li.

Not only that, but Martial Arts of Shaolin has a good story as well. Three shaolin students, some from the north, some from the south, all cross paths in their efforts to assassinate a corrupt official. Two of them are men, one is a woman. A love triangle ensues.

The fight scenes are fast and very entertaining. Even non-martial arts film fans will enjoy this one. Highly recommended.

***MINOR SPOILER INCLUDED***

Absolutely stunning. Seeing Jet Li move like this without wires and before age and injuries took their toll is jaw-dropping.

Yu Hai is as impressive as he was in Tai Chi Boxer (with Wu Jing), and Lau Kar-leung's direction and choreography are superb. I've never seen the first two Shaolin Temple films and, whilst this is apparently the best, action-wise, I shall have to seek them out now.

Huang Qiu-yan made a good female lead, and it appears that Jet did in fact win her hand in the end, as he married her in real life (from 1987-1990).

What more can you ask for in a film? There's pole fighting, Mantis style kung fu, and the mighty three-sectioned staff.

Unless I'm mistaken, Chi Chuen-Hua (Yu from Fong Sai Yuk II) was one of the henchmen. There was certainly a mean-looking bald guy that closely resembled him in any respect.

Basically, buy this film NOW.

What can I say about this movie. I enjoyed Shaolin Temple 1 and I enjoyed Shaolin Temple Kids as well, but this movie blows the lid off of both films. From start to finish the martial arts displays were phenominal. I haven't seen jet any better. Yue Sing Wai, to me this guy rates in the top 5 bad guys of kung fu films. He rates as a bad buy with the likes of Lo Lieh, Wang Lung Wei, Chan Sing, Lu Feng, and then Yue Sing Wai. I enjoyed him in Yellow River Fighter as the hero, but as a bad guy he is simply the man. His double handle double edged sword technique is the best hands down. And Yue Hoi his mantis fist....POWERFUL. I guess three times is a charm because their display in this movie overshadows Shaolin 1 and 2. Shaolin 1 and 2 are pure appetizers compare to Shaolin Temple 3, and I didn't know that Lau Kar Leung (Liu Chia Liang) choreographed this film, the fights were tight, crisp, with powerful movements. Yuen Woo Ping, and Ching Siu Ting are dynamic choreographers, but if you want tight traditional fights without the wire fu Lau is the best. 5 out of 5.
