Fleeing from unseen enemies, two wounded samurai stumble upon a mysterious in a remote region of the mountains. Unable to go any further, they collapse from exhaustion.
One awakens to find himself miraculously healed and in the care of a most eccentric host. The strange man tells him the legend of a Japanese demon that resides deep in the mountains and feasts on the flesh of men. He reveals that he is this demon--Aragami. Alive, yet unable to die, he seeks an end to his own limitless and empty existence, an existence without sleep, dreams, or hope. He wishes only to die in battle against a worthy opponent. The young samurai is challenged to a duel. The only way he can ever leave the temple is to first destroy Aragami...but will he truly be free?
