Extremely boring, somewhat confusing.

YThis review could be used interchangably for any of Wong Kar Wai's films. All of his movies are mind-numbingly boring, and no amount of fancy, and gimmicky, camerawork can hide that fact.MS10197
NIts just this film is not for you. I loved the film. Granted it took me several showings to understand it but after i did I loved more each time. Its a romantic drama piece. Its a great film.victimblue

Wong Kar-Wai films are rarely understood, and it's easy to see why. They are deliberately paced, methodical, and take their time when setting up a story. I for one was surprised to see that IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE was as well-received as it was, because it was so restrained. 2046 begins (or ends?) where ITMFL left off, at least in my opinion, with Tony Leung's character still searching for that elusive thing, love. I heard complaints that this film was hard to follow, but I disagree. Just pay attention. It's really an unofficial sequel to IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE, and while it is not the classic that ITMFL is, it's still a brilliant film, filled with terrific style and great acting, especially from Tony Leung. Wong Kar-Wai is a cinematic genius, one of the greatest directors of all time.

This film is actually somewhat of a sequal to "In the Mood for Love". It follows Mr Chow on what seems to be his road to recovery after a broken heart in the previous film. In this movie Mr Chow is writing stories that are based on sexual escapades and the room number 2046, which he cleverly transforms into a place where people in the future travel to forget memories and lose secrets. Throughout the storie we hear the same story that we heard in "In the Mood for Love" about the old days when people would climb a mountain and tell their secrets to a hole in a tree so that nobody would ever find out what that secret is. I definetly recommend this movie higly to anyone who has enjoyed any of Wong Kar Wai's previous films, especially if you have seen and loved the film "In the Mood for Love".
