| Another Ray Dennis Steckler cinematic oddity, which is redundant because all his movies are oddities but that is what makes his movies so much fun.
Originally this was meant to be a silent movie, but the distributors refused to release a silent movie in 1979. It was an interesting idea of two serial killers going about their daily routine, which included strangulations and stabbings, and falling in love. But the biggest draw is the fantastic late 70s sleazy Hollywood chock full of porn theatres, dirty magazine shops, and peep shows, and lots of footage of real people going about their daily business. It is all this pseudo-documentary footage that gives the movie an authentic feel about it.
It is a Steckler movie, so it is quirky and full of strange devices that are hallmarks of his films. Not nearly as good as his work from the 60s, these movies do feel a little tired, which is probably a reflection of Steckler in real life, but his movies do have an irresistible draw about them if you are a fan of cult movies. |
