In Italy, it was considered the ‘unofficial sequel’ to DAWN OF THE DEAD. In England, it was known as ZOMBIE FLESH-EATERS and banned as obscene. In America, it was called ZOMBIE and advertised with the depraved tag line “WE ARE GOING TO EAT YOU!” Tisa Farrow (MANHATTAN), Richard Johnson (THE HAUNTING) and Ian McCulloch (CONTAMINATION) star in this worldwide splatter sensation directed by the Maestro Of Gore Lucio Fulci (CONTRABAND, CONQUEST, THE BEYOND) that remains one of the most eye-skewering, skin-ripping, gore-gushingly graphic horror hits of all time!

ALTERNATE SYNOPSIS:
There is something sinister about the sailing boat drifting slowly in Hudson Bay. Upon boarding the boat the coast guard police are confronted with a terrifying sight appearing out of the hatchway: a man covered in blood, walking toward them menacingly. Only after being shot repeatedly does he fall overboard and disappear amid the waves.

This news causes a panic in America, as the sailing boat belonged to a famous scientist who mysteriously disappeared in the Caribbean.

Ann, the scientist's daughter, together with a famous jounalist named Peter West, set out to look for him. Setting sail on a schooner belonging to Brian, an American Ethnologist, and Susan, an underwater photographer, they head for the Caribbean.

Out at sea Susan dives to take some photographs but is attacked by a huge shark. Unexpectedly, a zombie appears from the depths to attack the shark and miraculously she is saved.

Meanwhile, on Mutal Island in the Antiles, Professor Menard is conducting strange experiments.

What follows in the Caribbean, and later in New York, is truly terrifying: zombie flesh eaters are here!

PLOT
A woman, a reporter, and a couple set sail to discover the truth behind a man's dissapearance.

COMMENTS
Well I was quite surprised by this film. I've heard a lot of mixed reviews about it and I figured that it wouldn't be that good, but I actually enjoyed it. Had a lot of excellent rotting zombies and a very cool ending.

Starts off with this unknown boat washing ashore New York city. Couple cops sail out to check into it and discover that there's no one there, or so they thought. Eventually one of the dumbasses gets bit by a fat zombie that was stored in the bottom of the boat. The next day the daughter of the owner of the boat is called in to be asked questions. Eventually she gets let out, with unanswered questions about the where her father really is.

She meets up with this reporter guy and they make a deal to find out what happened to her father by going to the island that he was staying at. The hitch a ride with this couple on their vacation and the rest is, zombies, zombies zombies. Oh yeah baby!

Anyway, this is my third or so film by Lucio Fulci, also known as the "Godfather of Gore," so I knew what I was getting myself into, with all the gore and stuff, which there was plenty of. I thought the begining of the movie, with the boat coming to New York, was pretty damn cool, because we all know that there's gonna be a zombie inside there and since it's in a big city, it's gonna be one hell of a feast. We don't really get to see something like that in zombie films. It's mainly taken place in small towns and such.

This movie did mostly take place on an island, but some scenes were in New York. This film mainly focused on the whole voodoo-theory of how the zombies came about, instead of the usual goverment coverup or some radioactive explosion, like we've seen in other zombie films. I thought that's what made this movie somewhat original and more interesting.

There's really nothing much I didn't like about the film, aside from some bad acting, and a lack of zombie action, but a lot of movies could use more zombie action. I would have given it a higher rating, but I thought a 7 was good enough, because I liked it, but not as much as I could have. Still fun to watch the guys shot up some zombies though.

I guess if you're a zombie fan, then you won't be dissapointed with this. The main reason why I liked it so much was the ending. It was predictable, but still very cool to watch.

After the credits at the end of the film, there was a notice saying something about a barf bag being handed out to the people of the theater audience if they needed it. Man, those people must have been really weak-stomached, cuz sure the film is gory, but not to the point of throwing up. I thought that was rather funny.

OVERALL
A good film to watch if you're a zombie fan. I recommend it if you haven't seen it yet, or if you're into those gore flicks.
