| Overview: | Funnyman Stephen Chow directs and stars in this hilarious spoof on the John Woo/Chow Yun Fat films. Chiao is a movie extra who thinks he's the greatest actor in the world. His devotion to his crafts soon catches the attention of the famous action actress Cuckoo (Karen Mok), who invites Chow to star in her next blockbuster. Will Chow finally get to play the leading role he's been dreaming of?
Not as comical as his earlier films, Stephen Chow turns to a more mature character, who is vulnerable and is more sensitive to the people he interacts with. His act is less bawdy and loud, with very little in the way offenssive coming from the character. The whole role is a new direction for Chow. Some people say this is Stephen Chow's Truman Show.
The action scenes are well handled by stunts veteran Bruce Law and his team. the church shootout scene she shoots is based upon he Killer is a nice touch, mixing gunplay and martial arts together.
The film as whole is tightly packed, entertaining, with some good acting condensed into a package that is more intelligent than the average Chow film.
