ALTERNATE SYNOPSIS:
When a poor servant (TOSHIRO MIFUNE) borrows the Imperial Red Lion mane and impersonates an army officer in town, he expects a warm welcome, but he gets much more than he bargained for. Torn between his friends, incompetent town officials and a secret group of assassins, the bumbling servant is headed for big trouble.

A comedy of errors in the tradition of YOJIMBO, RED LION provides plenty of samurai-style sniggers.
