One of his finest is here, in this tale of Shanghai and Hong Kong in the wake of the Japanese invasion. Based on a novel by Eileen Chang--considered to be the greatest 20th century Chinese female author--it co-stars glamorous Cora Miao and won awards in Taiwan and Hong Kong for its costume design and music.
