A great movie, I can't say it enough.
| With Moon Warriors touting itself as a "Sammo Hung film", I was a bit disappointed by the action choreography, which I later found was done by Corey Yuen.
The story is pretty solid and, along with the cinematography, is one of the movie's saving graces. Unfortunately, the battles are all very artificial feeling. Although blood is often shown, the combatants rarely look as if they touch each other during swordplay. More emphasis is placed on wirework and rapid spinning than providing a convincing display of visceral combat. Camera work is also a bit awkward during fight sequences. Andy Lau puts on a solid performance as usual, and the rest of the cast is solid as well. Unfortunately, there's just nothing especially noteworthy about this film, with the possible exception of an Orca Whale. If you are a fan of films like House of Flying Daggers, which utilize excruciatingly stylized combat, then you may enjoy this film, but those expecting more traditional kung-fu fare will likely be disappointed. |

This film is, exceptionally, one of the best martial arts/swordplay drama films ever made! Set in the Ming Dynasty when there ruled emperors and evil eunuchs trying to overthrow them, a highly skilled martial artist/secluded fisherman (Andy Lau) get caught up in the family feud of Emperor Yin (Kenny Bee) and his brother. In their relations, include the beautiful princess Moony (Anita Mui), and the secret assassin in disguise, Maggie Cheung. All are highly skilled in swordplay and despite their personal problems amongst each other, they join together in the final climactic, unsuspecting, and twistful sequence to battle against the evil prince for their justice! The action is well choreographed by Sammo Hung, and the plot is understandingly moving. The stars give their best in drama and action, a highly recommended film for drama fans and of course, martial arts fans.

Very good movie--swordplay was excellent, had a great plot. I didn't like the ending though.
This movie is fantastic! Buy it you won't regret it. The only reason I didn't give it a 5-star rating is because it doesn't have English dubbing!
After I finished watching this movie, I watched it again and again. There's something about it that really moved me. It mixes action and romance well. I highly recommand it.
It is a sad and funny movie at once. Being a great swordplay movie, it includes some terrific romantic scenes as well. It also gives an insight into chinese culture. In my eyes the best movie of the genre BESIDES Chinese Ghost Story.
